About the Book

The book health management of spice crops contains 11 chapters on plantation spices crops viz., black pepper (Piper nigrum L.), cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum Maton.), ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.), turmeric (Curcuma longa), nutmeg (Myristica fragrans Houtt.), cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum), garcinia (Garcinia spp.), beetle wine (Piper betle L.) and vanilla (Vanilla planifolia Andrews). Book covers most of the core tools and management technology developed by our distinguished scientists. Each chapter included introduction, about the crop, disease causal agent, symptoms and its managements, insect pests, symptoms and its management, nematode pests, symptoms and its managements, nutrient management and organic management of plantation spices crops. This book will be helpful to planters, farmers, researcher, student and entrepreneur and also show the new path of our future budding scientist, researchers, policy makers for the exploration and development of newly management tools and techniques in the frontier area for the social welfare. This book contains about 290 pages.

About the Author

Dr. Rashid Pervez has made significant contributions to Science and agriculture in the field of plant protection specially management of nematodes and insect pests infesting pulse and spice crops last 24 years. He started the research work at AMU, Aligarh in 1993 on the biological control of plant parasitic nematodes. Dr. Pervez innovative research on behaviour and biological control of nematodes has yielded him M. Phil. and Ph. D. degrees in 1995 and 1999, respectively.
Presently he is working as Principal Scientist at Division of Nematology, ICAR- Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) Pusa, New Delhi. He mainly is working on entomopathogenic nematodes (EPN). Dr. Pervez has been described two heat tolerant new species of EPN and 4 new species of EPN. One new artificial media based on low cost and locally available ingredients has been synthesized for the mass production of the entomopathogenic nematodes. He served as Group Leader of Front Line Demonstration (FLD) of variety and technology developed by ICAR-IISR, Kozhikode in the farmer’s fields. Besides this, he has been serving various capacities to build the institute such as member of Seed Production Committee, Publication Committee, Equipment Monitoring Committee and Farm Advisory Committee.
Dr. Rashid has been Principal Investigator and Co PI of the various Project funded by ICAR, DST and Kerala govt. He guided 5 M. Sc. Student and Examiner of Ph. D. student. He served as editor of scientific journals Trends in Biosciences and Advances in Life Sciences. He was editor of Annual report, Masala Samachar (quarterly news letter) of ICAR-IISR Kozhikode and Malabar Jyoti (TOLIC magazine). He published 77 research papers in reputed international and national journals, 35 book/bulletin, 2 manual, 1 extension folder and 45 scientific popular articles. He has also attended several symposia and conferences and delivered lectures and present 58 research paper. He recipient of Scientist of the Year Award- 2016, ICAR- Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Best Book Award – 2015, SPPS Meritorious Scientist Award – 2015, Dr. Muthuswami Anandaraj Award – 2014, Dr. H. S. Mehta Memorial Award – 2013, Young Scientist Award – 2007, Young Scientist Associate Award – 2005, ICAR Best Participant Award – 2010, Best Paper Presentation Award (three times), Best Poster Awards (four times) and Fellow of Nematological Society of India and Society of Plant Protection Sciences.
